Founded in 1978 by James Kemper, Jr. and Steven H. Lesnik, KemperSports has more than 6,500 employees today, yet remains a family-owned company.

KemperSports builds, owns, leases and manages golf courses, resorts, athletic clubs and lodging venues across the U.S. and Caribbean. The company manages an award-winning portfolio including nationally-ranked courses, private clubs, municipal courses and tournament venues.

Also offering golf course renovation and consulting services, KemperSports has a wide range of clients that includes public agencies, investors, real-estate developers and private owners.

KemperSports’ sister company, KemperLesnik, is a leading public relations, event marketing, sports marketing and content marketing agency that delivers integrated communications strategies for leading brands in consumer, corporate, sports and travel and tourism industries.

NGF Takeaways

Being associated with a number of well-regarded and high profile facilities across the U.S. has  further enhanced KemperSports’ status among golfers.

The company has developed a reputation for its affiliation with somewhat remote, “pure golf” getaways, most noteworthy among them being the iconic destination of Bandon Dunes. Properties like Streamsong, Sand Valley and Chambers Bay also fall within this category of elite public access courses, putting KemperSports in exceptionally unique territory within the course management space. Yet the company also enjoys management success with municipalities, daily fee courses and private clubs.

KemperClub, the company’s customer loyalty program, is maximizing the growing course portfolio with special events and experiences that are creating a high level of engagement.

Industry-wide, KemperSports is firmly among the top five management companies in the U.S. golf market in terms of the number of facilities it operates.
