Total rounds played in June 2019 were unchanged from a year ago, though play was actually up in six of the eight geographic regions nationwide. The national year-to-date total actually improved slightly and is down -1% at the midpoint of the calendar year.
National rounds-played were up 2.8% in January 2019 compared to the same period a year ago. It’s a positive start to the year after 11 of 12 months in 2018 were marked by year-over-year declines in play largely due to an increased incidence in unfavorable weather.
Last year’s weather picture wasn’t a pretty one, particularly for golf. Rounds-played in the U.S. were down, year-over-year, in 11 of 12 months in 2018, affected in large part by colder weather and heavier precipitation than normal during the busiest months for golf.
