Profile

With a full line of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, growth regulators, and other products, PBI-Gordon Corporation is a national leader in the professional turf and ornamental management industry. Based in the Kansas City metro area, PBI-Gordon has been in business since 1947, and is 100 percent employee-owned.

PBI-Gordon was one of the first companies to recognize the need for turf solutions designed specifically for golf course superintendents. In 1968, the company became the licensee to combine active ingredients 2,4-D, MCPP, and Dicamba. It marketed exclusive rights to a patented formula called Fairway Herbicide, selling the first gallon ever to Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Fairway would evolve into one of today’s most popular products for fighting weeds: Trimec®.

The initial success of Trimec set in motion a process that led to the development of numerous industry-leading and technologically advanced solutions for the turf industry, such as SpeedZone®, Vexis®, and Surge® herbicides, and Pedigree, Kabuto®, and Tekken™ fungicides.

“From its founding in 1947, one of the greatest strengths of PBI-Gordon has been innovation through customer intimacy,” says Don Chew, CEO of PBI-Gordon. “By knowing our customers and understanding their challenges, we’re better able to develop the innovative and reliable products they need.”

Today, PBI-Gordon continues to thrive, strengthening its leadership position in the industry by providing focused, reliable solutions and expertise to help professionals keep their turf healthy and strong.
