Profile

Baroness is an industry leader in the design and manufacturing for golf course equipment, with a very strong presence in Asia and particularly its home country of Japan.

The company started in 1910, originally producing equipment for silk growers in Japan before growing and becoming nationally recognized as a turf maintenance specialty company. While global distribution has expanded, including in the U.S. since 2006, Baroness remains largely focused in the Asian market, with a growing reach in Europe.

While the company focused on a variety of products through the years — human-powered threshers, rope manufacturing machines and rice and vegetable cultivators — in 1959, the company’s focus shifted entirely yet again with the development of its first greens mower.

When the greens mower was first created, the company’s president utilized a novel process to strengthen mower reels, a practice it still utilizes to this day. From there, the company earned its reputation as one of Japan’s premier turf maintenance specialists, as it distributed its first Baroness 5 reel hydraulic-driven tractor mower in 1978.

Since the early 1980s, the company’s product lineup and annual sales have nearly doubled, as the organization currently offers 65 products, including mowers for greens, approaches, bunkers, fairways, rough, and teeing grounds.
